Cleaning Drapes

Whilst there's no doubt that using a professional to clean your drapes is the ultimate solution, there are things you can do to keep your drapes in pristine condition, whilst also prolonging their life.

  • Use outside blinds or drapery liners to keep your drapes from fading. Excessive exposure to sunlight can fade your drapes and give them the appearance of being aged. By limiting their exposure to direct sunlight by either using exterior blinds or shading systems, or having your drapes lined with an opaque liner, you limit he effects of the sunlight on your drapes' appearance.

  • Make sure your windows don't have any leaks or condensation, as exposure to moisture can cause mold or staining on your drapes. By checking periodically that your drapes aren't being exposed to any moisture, you will maintain their "just like new" appearance, and prolong their life.

  • Buy stain resistant drapes in the first place. You don't want the kids spilling a drink on your drapes, rendering them useless. Just like you can purchase stain resistant furniture and carpets, many drapery manufacturers now offer stain resistant lines of fabrics.

  • Vaccuum your drapes regularly. You'd be surprised how much dust can build up on drapes which aren't vaccuumed regularly. Another thing to consider is that by virtue of the fact that drapes are "gathered", dust can accumulate in the drapes, and when they are opened or closed, large amounts of this dust are shaken into the atmosphere. which can be bad news for those suffering allergies or asthma.
